If you’ve typed “singles near me” into a search bar, you want people you could actually meet this week, not a pen pal three hundred miles away. Encounters.uk is set up for exactly that. Join any of our four sections, build a profile, and you’ll get daily match suggestions shaped by distance as well as age, gender, lifestyle and what you’re after: something casual, something long-term or a friendship first.
Every profile shows the member’s nearest town or city, so you can tell at a glance who is local. Swipe for speed, right if someone appeals and left to pass, and when someone nearby catches your eye, say hello. VIP members also get advanced search, with filters for city and distance, so you can draw the circle where you want it.
Your own details stay yours. Other members see your username and the town or city nearest to you, and that’s all: no real name, no email, no address and no live location. If anyone oversteps, you can block or report them from inside the site.

There are over 1,200 members on Encounters.uk, three quarters of them between 25 and 54. The 35 to 44s are the biggest age group, about three in ten of everyone.

Make local dating work for you
- Say where you are, in your own words. Your profile already shows your nearest town. Add a line about which side of town you live on, or where you’re happy to travel to, and you skip a round of “so where are you exactly?”
- Be realistic about distance. Decide how far you’ll really travel on a weeknight and stick to it. Someone lovely two hours away is still two hours away when it’s raining.
- Meet halfway. For a first date, pick somewhere between you that’s public, easy to reach by train or bus and easy to leave. Our first date ideas guide has suggestions for cities across the UK.
- Keep the first one short. A coffee or a walk is plenty. If it goes well, the second date can be nearer one of you.

Is there a page for singles in my area?
There are 18 city pages, from Glasgow to Plymouth, and each one takes in the towns around it as well as the city itself. If your town has no page of its own, read the one for the nearest city; our locations page pairs common towns with the right city page.
Can I see how far away someone is?
Roughly, yes. Each profile shows the member’s nearest town or city, never an exact address or live location, and yours is shown the same way. VIP members can also search by distance.
How do I stay safe meeting someone local?
