Oxford Dating: Meet Singles in Oxford
Our Oxfordshire members are younger than the site as a whole, and nearly all of them are here for fun. Pick your section and see who’s a short bike ride away.
Four reasons to date in Oxford
- Members across the county: Oxford and Marston, Bicester, Banbury, Didcot and Carterton.
- A young crowd, with nearly half under 35 and a quarter aged 18 to 24.
- Nearly everyone is in Casual Encounters, so you know where you stand.
- A compact city where a first date can be a walk by the river, a punt or a wet afternoon in a museum.
Oxford singles, town and gown
Dating in Oxford isn’t only for students, and the 35 to 44s make up four in ten of our local crowd. Our Oxfordshire members give Oxford and Marston as home, along with Bicester, Banbury, Didcot and Carterton, so the city and the towns around it are all covered. Sign up, add a few photos, and the people closest to you feature strongly in your daily match suggestions.
Oxford is a good city to date in. The centre is small enough to cross on foot, the rivers and meadows are a short walk from the colleges, and term time brings a fresh crowd back every autumn. Out of town, the market towns keep their own pace, and a match in Banbury or Didcot is only a short train ride from the city.
Under 35? You’re in good company
Oxfordshire skews young. A quarter of our members here are 18 to 24, one in five are 25 to 34, and four in ten are 35 to 44, the biggest group of all. About one in seven are 45 to 54. If you are over 40 and want something steady, Mature Encounters is worth a look as well.

Six Oxford first dates, from laid-back to a little fancy
Wherever you take your date, it won’t be hard to impress them in Oxford’s pretty riverside setting. Start with whichever suits the weather:
- A walk on Port Meadow
- Open common land beside the Thames, a few minutes from Jericho, with horses grazing and a big sky overhead. Keep walking north and you reach Wolvercote.
- A punt on the Cherwell
- Hire one at Magdalen Bridge in the warmer months. It is hard to stay nervous when one of you is steering with a pole.
- Christ Church Meadow or the University Parks
- Central, green and open to everyone, with the colleges as your backdrop.
- The Ashmolean
- Walk in off Beaumont Street and there’s enough here to keep the conversation going for an afternoon. The Pitt Rivers Museum, reached through the Natural History Museum on Parks Road, suits anyone who likes the unusual.
- The Covered Market
- Coffee and cake in the middle of town, with people all around and no pressure to stay long.
- Jericho or Cowley Road
- For the evening: Jericho for a quieter drink near the canal, Cowley Road for a livelier night and food from all over the world.
Getting around Oxford without the fuss
Oxford runs on bikes and buses, and driving into the centre is rarely worth it, so if your date lives out of town, the Park and Ride sites on the ring road are the easy answer. Bicester and Banbury both have trains into Oxford, Didcot is on the main line between London and the west, and Oxford Parkway, on the northern edge of the city, links to Bicester and London Marylebone. Carterton has no station, so Witney, on the road between the two, makes an easy meeting point.
London is about an hour away by train if you fancy a bigger night out, and our London page covers the capital. Birmingham is about an hour north by rail, and Bristol is a little further west.
Casual, serious or somewhere in between
Almost every Oxfordshire member we have is in Casual Encounters, the 18+ section for people who want fun, flirting and no strings. If you’d rather build something lasting, Single Encounters is the section for relationships, and Milf Encounters, our newest section, is for older women and younger men who want to flirt. Every section keeps its own membership, with a separate sign-up for each.
