Manchester Dating: Meet Singles in Manchester

Bolton to Stockport, Salford to Rochdale: our members are spread right across Greater Manchester. Pick a section and see who’s a short ride away.

Meet someone on your side of the city

Dating in Manchester works best when it isn’t only about the city centre, and here it isn’t. Encounters members in Greater Manchester give home towns from one end of the city region to the other, so whoever you click with could well be a short tram, train or bus ride away. These are the places they list, the most common first:

  • Manchester
  • Stockport
  • Salford
  • Bolton
  • Oldham
  • Tyldesley
  • Rochdale
  • Baguley
  • Newton Heath
  • Blackrod
  • Kearsley
  • Atherton
  • Prestwich
  • Bury

Greater Manchester also skews younger than Encounters.uk as a whole. A little over four in ten members here are under 35, compared with about a third across the site, and roughly one in seven is 18 to 24. There’s plenty of experience too: nearly three in ten are 45 or over, and close to three in four fall between 25 and 54.

First dates with a Manchester accent

The city centre is compact, so you can meet in one neighbourhood and stroll to the next if the conversation is going well. Six good places to start:

The Northern Quarter
Independent cafés, bars and record shops in a tight grid of old warehouse streets around Stevenson Square. Ideal for a coffee that turns into a drink, and lively enough at weekends that a pause in the chat goes unnoticed.
Ancoats
The old cotton mills beside the Rochdale Canal now hold restaurants, bakeries and bars. Walk the towpath out to New Islington Marina while you decide where to eat.
Castlefield
Canal basins, Victorian railway viaducts and the rebuilt gateway of a Roman fort, a few minutes from Deansgate. On a dry evening the bars around the basin suit an unhurried date.
Two galleries and a library
Manchester Art Gallery on Mosley Street and the Whitworth, on the edge of Whitworth Park, are easy to wander round at your own pace, and so is the John Rylands Library on Deansgate, with its Gothic reading room. A painting you both dislike beats any opening line.
Salford Quays
The waterfront around MediaCityUK has the Lowry arts centre, wide walks along the old docks and a tram straight back into town.
Heaton Park
North of the city by Prestwich, with a boating lake, woodland and views back over the skyline. A good daytime choice if you’d rather walk and talk than sit across a table.

Our first date ideas guide goes further, city by city. Wherever you end up, make the first meeting somewhere public and give our safety advice five minutes before you set off.

Easy to get to, easy to get home

Metrolink trams run out to Bury, Prestwich, Oldham, Rochdale, Altrincham and Salford Quays, so a lot of Greater Manchester is one tram from town. Stockport and Bolton are quicker by train, into Piccadilly and Victoria, and the guided busway brings Tyldesley in along an old railway line. The yellow Bee Network buses cover the rest.

Choose a meeting point you can both reach without changing, such as St Peter’s Square or Victoria, and check the time of the last tram before the second round.

The section that fits what you want

Almost all of our Greater Manchester members are in Casual Encounters, the adult section for fun without the strings, so if that’s what you’re after, start there.

Hoping for a relationship? Single Encounters is built for that, and Mature Encounters is for singles over 40. Both are smaller sections, so look a little further afield. Milf Encounters, our newest, brings confident older women together with the younger men who admire them.

Salford, Stoke and beyond, come on in

Looking for dating in Salford? You’ve found it. Salford is a city in its own right, just across the Irwell, and it’s one of the home towns our members here give most, so this page covers it alongside Manchester.

If you live in Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester is within easy reach too: trains from Stoke get to Piccadilly in well under an hour, by way of Macclesfield and Stockport. Set a wider distance and the whole of Greater Manchester comes into range, and singles near me shows how that works. Would you rather head south? Dating in Birmingham covers the West Midlands.

Along the M62 in both directions, Liverpool and Leeds have pages of their own, and every city we cover is on our locations page.

Manchester dating, straight answers

Can I get home by tram after a date in Manchester?

Usually, yes. The Metrolink reaches Bury, Prestwich, Oldham, Rochdale, Altrincham and Salford Quays from the city centre, and trains cover Stockport and Bolton. Meet near a stop such as St Peter’s Square or Victoria, and look up the last tram before you order another round.

Where should we meet for a first date in Manchester?

The Northern Quarter if you want plenty of choice within a few streets, or Ancoats and Castlefield if you’d like a canal-side walk first. All three are central, busy in the evening and close to a tram stop.

Are there members in Salford and Stockport?

Yes. After Manchester itself, Stockport and Salford are the home towns our members in the area give most, followed by Bolton and Oldham.
